My role project-based, meaning that I am involved in a variety of initiatives at any one time. This dynamic, goals-based structure has been exponentially constructive for me – each project requires me to adopt and develop different skills and to interact with different stakeholders, the variety of which prevents me from ever getting bored! I have quite a competitive nature, and the fast paced, deadline-focused work has supported my eagerness to achieve results. It’s also very gratifying seeing my work being implemented in initiatives across the firm, showing the real business results of mine and my team’s efforts. My support to the Chief Administrative Office (CAO) has allowed me to gain exposure across senior management functions within the firm, meaning that I’ve been able to forge invaluable connections in my experience so far. I look forward to the progression and development I can hopefully achieve throughout the rest of the year!
The most challenging aspect of my experience so far has been assimilating into corporate culture; coming into such a large, established firm as the youngest EMEA employee was incredibly daunting to begin with. I was nervous that my lack of technical knowledge would hold me back when working with professionals in their fields everyday – I couldn’t have been more wrong! At J.P. Morgan, the attitude towards I20/20 trainees is one of respect; my colleagues immediately made me feel supported and helped me learn more about the varying parts of the business. People have been happy to answer my questions, and attending events hosted by Investment20/20 such as presentation skills training have enabled my confidence relating to professional conduct in the workplace to grow exponentially.
I joined Investment20/20 after finishing school and receiving my A Level results – I was initially worried that my young age and lack of relative industry experience would hold me back, but if anything it’s been the opposite! The level of respect that people have for you as a young professional associated with Investment20/20 has been very gratifying, and has pushed me to work at the level of someone much older than me. Investment 20/20 played a large role in ensuring that I felt supported as a school leaver – their industry wide events allowed me to connect with other trainers and apprentices my own age, which meant that I could find confidence in knowing that I’m not the only one!
I’m currently deciding whether to attend university next year or to remain at J.P. Morgan – no matter what I do, my experience so far of the culture within my firm has convinced me that I would like to work here in the future. I’m hoping to explore more of the options that J.P. Morgan Chase as a wider firm can offer me, and also hope to understand the different roles available in financial services, so that I can work in a role that pushes me to succeed in the future.
I’ve had the most phenomenal experience with Investment20/20 so far. Both the wider Investment20/20 network, and the internal network at J.P. Morgan have been undeniably constructive in supporting my personal and professional growth – I feel so much more confident in myself and my abilities after only a few months! I would not hesitate to recommend this opportunity to anyone else looking to explore the investment management industry.
